I will readily admit that the first part of my report became hopelessly mired in the mysterious origin and purpose of megalithic ritual chant. (I warned you) So, in a continued effort to further peel back the layers of the wonderfully eerie sounds of "The Children of the Stones"
I now continue....As previously stated, the choral voicings were provided by the Ambrosian Singers and the score was composed by one Sidney Sagar. Viewed as an under appreciated savant by many, Sager was known for his work in multiple English TV and film productions from the1950's-1980's before passing away in 2002. The core musical composition, written in the Lydian dominant scale, (see below video) of Children of the Stones seemingly flows randomly from C and D major structures and is often emphatically (read as with glee) punctuated with an oddly crafted Em9 to G/C harmonic melody during the series' most frightful moments.
"Lydian Dominant"
"Diegetic music", as defined in the film or television context, is music that is actively part of the score but that.... oh forget it.
"Diegetic Hymn"
The experience of "Children of the Stones" is something that has certainly stuck with me. Now, sitting here among the rocks and stars, listening to and seeing it again, I've concluded that it is a series that blends many elements- the Druidic traditions, the paranormal experience, the intrigue of astro and theoretical physics.... truly a massive vein of information, a true motherload of data to be examined, refined and shared between the human race.
Special thanks to the Sonic Youth for writing such a spellbinding song.
E.D Out.
